Scarf from organic silk, handmade and Fairtrade
2013-02-23 - Unique scarf from organic silk, handwoven in the internationally famed 'Lock and Key' pattern. In 2002 this complex pattern won the prestigious Unesco Award of Excellence for Handicrafts.
The scarf is made by hand by master weavers from Mulberries, a Fairtrade organisation in Laos. The artisans are responsible for the complete process, from silkworm to scarf.
The silkworms are fed with leaves from mulberry trees owned by the Mulberries farm. The farmland further contains all kinds of plants, flowers and bushes that are used to create natural dyes to give the scarves their beautiful colours. During the entire production circle no chemicals and pesticides are being used.
The colours of this scarf are made from the leaves and bark from the teak tree.
