Silk scarves from Bangladesh
2019-03-07 - Did you know that beautiful silk kantha scarves are being made in Bangladesh? Not in factories where big fashion chains are producing their clothes and where the makers are underpayed and working in unsafe buildings. But at organisations that are working on the basis of Fairtrade principles.
Our popular colourful scarves are made from the silk of two traditional saris. They are designed by women from Basha, a local Fairtrade organisation based in Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital.
Basha’s women create scarves the way they would like to wear them themselves: with contrasting patterns and radiant colour combinations. Each piece is unique.

Basha is a local Fairtrade organisation that provides the women with sustainable work and fair wages. The women make the scarves in a safe workshop, work normal hours and receive health insurance. Their children are going to school.
