Spring and summer colours 2014
2014-03-26 - Spring is in the air! We are ready to leave the blacks and greys of this winter behind and to fully focus on the new spring and summer colours. Pastels are the new 'it' colours coming season. Soon all shopping windows will be filled with powdery soft pink, purple, green, coral and blue hues.
The Pantone Color Report Spring-Summer 2014 can be subdivided into two great contrasting groups. On the one hand we see delicate pastels like Placid Blue and Hemlock Green while on the other hand the colour palette is rocked by vivid brights like Radiant Orchid and Cayenne Red. If you think that those pastels and brights don't go well together then think again! This season is all about a harmonious and charming fusion of the two.
'This season, consumers are looking for a state of thoughtful, emotional and artistic equilibrium. While this need for stability is reflected in the composition of the palette, the inherent versatility of the individual colors allows for experimentation with new looks and color combinations' says Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color University.
An overview of the newest spring and summer colours:
Pastels
Placid Blue, a tranquil sky blue;
Violet Tulip, a sophisticated, vintage purple;
Hemlock Green, a vintage variant of mint green;
Sand and Paloma Grey, two go-with-everything neutrals.
Brights
Cayenne Red, a timeless shade of red;
Freesia Yellow, a tropical, floral-inspired sunny hue;
Celosia Orange, an optimistic and juicy shade of orange;
Radiant Orchid, the main colour this spring and summer!
Dazzling Blue, a strong and eye-feasting blue that mixes wonderfully with Placid Blue and Cayenne.
