2015-10-14 - Counting Flowers is very proud to announce that the founder of Mulberries in Laos, Kommaly Chanthavong, was one of five recipients of the highly prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Foundation Award.
The Ramon Magsaysay Foundation Award is widely regarded as the Asian region’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize.

Bestowed annually this award honours “greatness of spirit and transformative leadership in Asia”.
It was given to Kommaly in recognition of “her fearless, indomitable spirit to revive and develop the ancient Laotian art of silk weaving, creating livelihoods for thousands poor, war-displaced Laotians, and thus preserving the dignity of women and her nation’s priceless silken cultural treasure”.
Kommaly travelled to Manila for the award ceremony last August to receive the award from President Benigno S. Aquino III.
