Linen

Linen is a beautiful fabric made from the stalks of the flax plant. Linen is much more laborious to manufacture than wool or cotton but is highly valued because of its beauty, strength and exceptional coolness in hot weather.

Linen yarn is spun from the long fibres found just behind the bark in the multi-layer stem of the flax plant. The process for separating the flax fibers from the plant's woody stock is painstaking and can therefore be expensive.

Care instructions for linen

You can wash linen with (hand) warm water, but using cold water will avoid shrinking. Consider the following when washing your scarf:

• Wash the scarf separately the first few times;
• Only use a little soap;
• Do not use softener;
• Do not dry linen in bright sunlight;
• Linen will wrinkle but can be ironed. Iron while still moist for a smooth result.
