Scarves from Bangladesh
2013-08-20 - Our new kantha scarves prove that good and fair products can come from Bangladesh as well! Handmade in a safe and healthy work environment and paid for with fair wages while the artisans’ children go to school.
The kantha scarves are made from silk and cotton vintage saris, the colourful wrap-around dresses worn by Bangladeshi women. The artisans choose two contrasting pieces of cotton or silk fabric and finalise the scarf the kantha way: with small patches and straight, even stitches.
The artisans work with Basha, a local Fairtrade organisation that aims to support women at risk and survivors of human trafficking.
Their lives are turned around. Today the women design and produce extraordinary one-of-a-kind silk and cotton scarves. Now available at Counting Flowers.
